It will be very difficult for you to find an alcohol treatment program in New Mexico that does not include a detoxification phase. This is quite a different trend from other states. While in other states you will find a large number of holistic and spiritual programs for alcohol de-addiction that do not use any form of detox (some may use herbal detox methods at the most), the alcohol detoxification program in New Mexico figures very prominently.

Let us take a deeper look at how the alcohol detoxification program in New Mexico is implemented and what its purposes are.

Alcohol Detox in New Mexico – What does it mean?

The simplest definition of the alcohol detoxification program is that it is a treatment process in which the body of the person is completely cleansed from the presence of the addictive substance. This is done by first making the person abstain and live in a completely healthy manner and then by providing medications that will help the body come out of the cravings for the alcohol completely.

Detox is done for various reasons in New Mexico. It is very commonly performed for removing addictive substances such as alcohol and various drugs from the body of the person. It is also a common procedure for people who are undergoing weight loss programs and is an important part of colon cleansing procedures. When applied to alcoholism, detox mainly targets removal of alcohol from the body of the person.

Alcohol Detox in New Mexico – How is it performed?

The first step is to make the person isolated from all kinds of familiar places and people, which include the family of the patient. They are kept away from anything that might trigger a craving for alcohol in them. Then they are made to completely abstain from using alcohol and are put on a healthy lifestyle, including their diet.

Once the patient is kept away from the alcohol, within a day or two, he or she will experience a strong attraction to consume the substance. This craving will come on strongly, and in some cases, it will manifest itself in physical symptoms. This stage is known as the withdrawal. This is considered to be the most difficult phase of the addiction to treat and requires careful medicinal approaches to both stabilize the patient’s body and mind and to reverse the effects of withdrawal and make the person healthier.

Medications such as Antabuse are very commonly used in the alcohol detoxification program in New Mexico. The main purpose of this drug is to reduce the craving that the person experiences. A regular treatment of Antabuse is essential because it reduces the pleasurable effects that the substance produces and enhances the troublesome effects such as the hangover. The second medication used is Campral, the main intention of which is to reduce the chemical imbalances that take place in the brain. In that manner, this medication helps in rejuvenating the senses and to keep the person away from the addiction.

Alcohol Detox in New Mexico – What are the purposes?

The purposes of alcohol detoxification are different in different parts of the world. When this treatment is carried out in New Mexico, the intention is to completely cleanse the body of the person from the presence of the substance in their bodies. Detoxification here is said to be successful only if the person’s liver, kidneys and the bloodstream are freed completely from the alcohol present in it.

This is done mainly to prevent any health complications from occurring in the person. Alcohol does not get metabolized in the body immediately and all at once. It takes time. Some of it remains as it is in various parts of the body. If it remains in this manner, it will only create further problems in the body. Even if the person gives up the alcohol habit later on in life, he or she might develop some health complications later on in life, such as the notorious cirrhosis of the liver. Hence it becomes extremely essential to cleanse the person’s body of the alcohol that is present in it.

Also, there is the point that alcohol detoxification can actually speed up the recovery process. If the person’s body retains alcohol, it will not be able to overcome the inclination to have more alcohol pumped into it. However, if the alcohol is removed completely, the person will find it better to lose the craving for the substance.

A Brief Look at Alcoholism Signs

by Alcohol Rehab Program on September 6, 2010

Although, drinking cannot be good to anybody, however an acceptable amount of alcohol can be termed as safe for normal healthy person. Many alcoholism signs and symptoms of alcohol abuse on a person’s physical and psychological state are easy to see, but others are more difficult to recognize.

Over a period, heavy consumption of alcohol would definitely result in an extensive damage to almost every system in your body.

Alcohol abuse and alcoholism has a major impact on society causing thousands of innocent deaths each year and exacerbating situations involving violent crimes and domestic violence. An addicted and habitual alcoholic person is a curse to his family, his coworkers and overall him or herself.

As you know, careful observation of alcoholism signs and symptoms is the first step to help the person to get out of this problem. Noticing alcoholism signs and symptoms will allow you to help the drinking person to get out of alcoholism. This is all-important because most of the drinkers actually don’t know or realize that they have the drinking problem. That’s the main cause root of the problem.

As we all know that alcoholism signs differ from person to person, and have different short and long term effects on the person who drinks. Some general alcoholism signs are: loss of memory, loss of working capacity/stamina, drinking alone, making excuses, finding excuses to drink, daily or frequent drinking needed to function, inability to reduce or stop alcohol intake, violent episodes associated with drinking like fighting, abusing fellow drinkers, family members or even strangers, drinking secretly, becoming angry when confronted about drinking, poor eating habits, failure to care for physical appearance, trembling in the morning etc. and many more.

In addition to the above mentioned alcoholism signs, there can be many other signs and symptoms depending upon certain other factors, such as living and working environment, age and sex of a person, amount of alcohol taken, frequency of total intake, eating habits and some other factors.

Depending upon all these factors, additional alcoholism signs can include inability to remember some of the events of the past. They also include feeling anxious in a social situation where there is no alcohol. Therefore, in all such circumstances, it can be called ‘problem drinking’ when it becomes ‘drinking that causes problems’.

However, no matter what alcoholism or warning signs a person experiences, there are always enough chances for improvement. An alcoholic person should be treated as an ill person (mental as well as physical), so proper care should be taken to help him or her. A chronic alcoholic person should not be treated harshly. In such situations, you should consider contacting your physician, counselor or other qualified professional.

Lastly, remember no matter how many alcoholism signs may exist in a person, it is never too late to begin recovery from alcohol addiction. Irrespective of these warning signs of alcoholism, there is always a help available. However, just like any other mental or physical disease the sooner we begin the better would be the recovery process.

It is interesting to note that, among the various states of the US, it is ranked at 17th for the population density and number.
